(“Butterfly Effect” painting by Joey Santiago)
Have you ever heard of the Butterfly Effect?
Supposedly it is a mathematical theory that shows how even the slightest change at one place can eventually result in vastly larger difference at a later place. Please note that this theory has been argued and dismissed by as many as have accepted it, so please, no letters. Just humor us for a minute, because we’re about to make a cool observation.
The term “butterfly effect” comes from the illustration of a hurricane being formed because a distant butterfly flapped its wings several weeks before… several thousand miles away.
That might sound a bit silly at first, but don’t be too quick to dismiss the truth in it. Fact is; we are all a lot like that butterfly. We flit and flutter around and go about our days not ever fully understanding the impact we are making on others.
How would your life be different if you lived every moment knowing that every action, reaction, decision or indecision you make will impact the lives of others and possibly even change the world someday?
Math, or no math. That’s pretty cool.
What small “disturbances” are you creating today that will make a big difference weeks, months or even years from now?
