There’s an early two thousands movie with Tom Cruise called Vanilla Sky. One girl who he had broken up with, he’s now dating another girl, and she comes back to him. She’s upset that he’s now with another girl. You know what she says? She says, “Don’t you know that when you have sex with somebody, your body makes a promise, whether you do or not.”
Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. I Thessalonians 5:23
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
The Bible says we are body and we are soul. We have to ask the questions: How do I love somebody with my words? How do I love somebody with how I think? How do love somebody with what I do with my body? That’s a question we’re thinking about that many Christians don’t probe because bodily actions mean something. If a slap means something and a hug means something, what does sex mean? What does sexual touch mean? Let’s think deeply about that so we can be sure to love people with both our body and with our souls.
