After a long week of orientation activities the students have finally jumped into their first full week of academics. All over campus you can find students quietly reading in “the attic,” having study groups on the porch, or writing papers in the library. Amidst all of the academia the students were given a special treat.
On Wednesday the students slowly loaded onto a charter bus at 6:30 in the morning to set out for an eventful day at the Chick-fil-a corporate office. The bus ride to Atlanta was a quiet one, tired students slept or listened to music for the hour long drive but things changed when the bus reached the first destination…the original Chick-fil-a Dwarf House. It’s amusing how a few chicken minis and a cup of coffee can shake things up. The students were beginning to wake from their sleep when Trudy White, daughter of Chick-fil-a founder Truett Cathy, walked into the room. She passionately told students about growing up in the Chick-fil-a franchise and then gave a quick tour of the kitchen. After a few pictures the group was off to their next few stops around Atlanta, locations that had all been significant to the growth of the Chick-fil-a Corporation. There was a ton of information shared and even a few dance parties along the way, eventually, after all of that fun, the students finally made it to the corporate office.
At the corporate office the students received a tour of “Hatch,” a developmental segment of the office, as well as the “Winshape” office where they learned about the Winshape programs started by Truett Cathy. In the same building as the Winshape office is the cafeteria where the students were able to enjoy a delicious lunch and reenergize themselves for the short class that they were able to sit in on at the end of the day.
When all was said and done the exhausted students pilled back onto the bus for the ride back to campus because, despite the eventful day, there were still books to read, things to study and papers to write. It’s just another week in the life of an IMPACT student.
